Jon Lech Johansen, or "DVD Jon", is getting back into the ring with Apple's Fairplay (http://featured.gigaom.com/2006/10/02/dvd-jon-fairplays-apple/) according to GigOM's Liz Gannes. This time, however, Jon plans to replicate Fairplay so that other companies can sell songs in iPod-compatible formats (similar to what Navio (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/05/20060522152531.shtml) and Real's Harmony (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2004/07/20040725235143.shtml) have previously attempted). According to the article, at least one unnamed company is already on board.
Earlier this summer, Jon joined with Monique Farantzos to create DoubleTwist Ventures, the company face to Jon's recent endeavor. Apparently, Apple's recently announced iTV (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060912161621.shtml) has spurred Jon and Farantzos' entrepreneurial spirit:
[Jon] and Farantzos were giddy about the prospect of Apples iTV, hoping companies will pay up to get movies on the set-top box when it comes out, after seeing the ill effects of being shut off the iPod. Spurned by Apple? Step right up.
Jon has apparently already spoken to Steve Jobs on vague terms about his business ideas.
Jobs apparently warned that while Apple was not a litigious company, other tech firms might not take kindly to whatever DVD Jon might be up to.
DVD Jon had previously circumvented Fairplay's DRM in 2003 (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/11/20031122001549.shtml), and since then multiple other tools have appeared to provide similar functionality for updated versions of Quicktime/iTunes. Jon is also credited for developing an algorithm named deCSS to strip a DVD of its encryption (called Content Scrambling System, or CSS), hence his nickname.

I'll be the iPhone also has the ability to act as a FrontRow/iTV remote.
That really would be the complete experience. Well, that, and also roll out something like the ancient X10 interface, so you can turn your house lights off and on. OMG, imagine being able to use voice control. And a little iPhone acting as a local mic when at home!

I recall the count down on Apple's homepage, waiting for it to come out. Several days after Mac OS X's release, my Power Mac G4 (which still runs) would arrive, and I slapped in a second hard drive so I could have OS 9 on one hard drive (20 GB) and Mac OS X on the other (15 GB).
I quickly made good use of Mac OS X's UNIX internals by making a PHP-Apache-MySQL project for a class. I made Mac OS X my primary OS pretty much from Day 1. I believe Photoshop was one of the last major programs I needed to launch regularly from Classic.

Well, chances are if it's being used it could well just be sitting there by the living room TV!I agree. To the OP - could you not just have a sneaky look through the Window and see if you can spot a 360?

Even though I own two iPhone 4's, I still think that it is definitely the most overrated phone ever.
Honestly if it weren't for those art and photography apps, I would have more Android/webOS phones. I really like the iPhone 4 but it isn't the end all and be all.
True.. But studies have shown that iPhone owners have more intercourse (decided to use the proper term) than Android phone owners. So I could see it resembling a status symbol.
Even though I own two iPhone 4's I never experienced being a meat sandwich so that survey is mostly bullshiznit.
Honestly, I don't buy the iPhone to show off but because it is a photography tool for my art studio.
Whenever an Adroid user gives me any crap, I just say one thing to them and it always shuts them up.
"battery life"
Works all the time. :D
Wrong my Motorola Defy gets just as good battery life as my iPhone 4. (I own one too) and plus I can do swimming with it.
Something that the iPhone 4 I own can't do!!!!!! :p
Peoplle hated Paris Hilton too and look how hot she was...
Paris Hilton is overrated and she isn't hot either. So there.

Considering the source "All Things Digital", Apple's personal mouthpiece, it's no wonder it has a Pro-Apple bias.
Of course Google's going to have growing pains. It's new territory for them. They'll get it sorted out.

I thought tht too, but there's already a section on the page for trailer. Just about the iTunes Videos
Yeah, and also the movie trailers are for current and upcoming films, but those two films (Transporter 2 and Red Eye) are long out of theaters and already released on DVD!

You're basically bragging that you have $100K in Apple stock. Nice!!!! :D Your faith is being rewarded handsomely...
Two can play at that game. I still have the 400 shares I bought in 1997.
Do the math. :)

Yes, you'll get a great idea by the votes. :D
haha. Well yeah you will get a highly biased perspective of course. That's a given. But the tendency will be for things that are good for Apple as a company. As long as you understand the bias you can base your own opinions off of the biased opinion. :p

...I'd like The Steve to walk on stage and announce that they absolutely will not release certain products, so the ones that keep coming up as rumours over and over again that stand no chance of ever seeing the light of day (Apple phone, I'm looking at you) stop getting taken seriously, and the rumour sites that have promoted the idea finally get egg on their faces.
That's the thing at the moment. Specific rumours along the lines of "iPod 100G at WWDC!" are easily verifiable and rumour sites that make crap up will get taken to task for it. But pretty much anyone can make up vague rumours about non-existant products as long as they avoid giving a precise timeline for it.
And some of those products are compelling, as the five year old iPhone rumour (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2001/04/20010415210047.shtml) demonstrates.
This article (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/08/20020818203655.shtml) is even better. It's a mere four years old, but the wording is such that if there was a glitch in MacRumor's software, and the article reappeared as if it was posted today, it would look completely at home, right down to the "OMG! Latest version of Mac OS X has hidden phone related strings!"

Maybe for you...

Um, a brand new trash can. Plus you would have to burn inside of the trashcan first...pretty much build a fire inside it using coals and wood.

Bottom line is this kid probably got fired and is now liable for $300 bucks, is seen as a thief by his family, friends and ex-coworkers, will probably hold a guilt trip for some time and probably start him down the road of failure. All this kid was doing, was trying to work at a job. Something admirable. But it's all ok. Because you have your iPad2 at a discounted price. enjoy yourself.
Why are you saying that the OP is the only one to blame.. It doesn't matter if the kid is trying to work a job and is being admirable... The point is HE KNEW he didn't have all the money and yet let him walk out with the ipad.. The employee is TOO MAKE SURE the customer paid what is owed.. Don't act like the OP is all at fault...
How many times did you pick up a penny from the leave a penny- take a penny thing at register in a WAWA or someplace.. Is that your money to take.. NOPE... SO everybody get off their high horse cause we all know damn well you would do the same thing...
How many of you go to out to eat and see that they didn't but a soda on your bill or they forgot to put your appetizer on it.. Do you tell the waitress that she forgot to but it on your bill? I BET NOT... I bet 90% of you would not say a word if you could save a few bucks...

My experience has been the exact opposite with the Mac, whether its trying to access a share on one of my other computers (my wife uses a PC) or accessing network resources on my work's network.
When in windows 7 it "just worked" I had no need to mess with eth0, drivers or any manually set up a network. I was able to connect to the resource and use it. Also it was much faster.
It has always been the same with the mac. Just go to the finder and look for shared computers.
OR
Taskbar: 'Go To Server/Computer'
OR
ssh/ftp > prostuff-not required
I had issues with OSX, that I was unable to access any shared files from my wife's computer. Accessing my work stuff was a bit easier but was SLOW, painfully slow. I pull up a folder with a couple hundred files, and I can easily sit there for well over 10 minutes while OSX does it thing. Windows, just a couple of minutes.
Report bugs. Are you comparing b/w OSX <-> Windows and Windows <-> Windows?
Networking is where windows has a clear advantage of OSX, in part because many (most?) enterprise networks are windows based, at least from my experience.
You are confusing stuff.
Given the design of windows, there's zero chance of that, it would require a complete rewrite and the folks at MS really don't see the design of windows being flawed. Especially since they see the marketshare being what it is - kind of like why fix it if it isn't broke mentality.
Fair enough.

The radiation dosage from any properly maintained active scanner is still orders of magnitude less than what you get from a 4-hour flight at 10 km. Go ahead and opt out of your full-body scans... if you're doing it for the "health" reason you're tilting at a very small windmill.
Yes, the same dosage in what, a second versus 4 hours? It's a beautiful piece of misinformation you are spreading there. It's the same cumulative dose, however over a vastly different timeframe. If you believe that timescale of exposure has no bearing of the effect of a given dose, then that's your choice.
